The Translation Of Reported Speech In English Economic News Discourse

As an important driving force of global economy,China proposes to establish the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank(AIIB),aiming to finance infrastructure construction in the Asia-Pacific region and boost economic development and regional integration,which encourages many countries to join it.However,AIIB is regarded by some developed countries as a rival for the existing multilateral institutions.The split between support and opposition has drawn great attention of global media.This thesis belongs to a translation practice report.Translation object is English economic news about the topic of AIIB.The 20 pieces of news reports are collected from the official website of foreign newspapers including The Guardian,Chicago Tribune,The Washington Post and Australian Financial Review.News writers often employ plenty of reported speech to enhance the objectivity and authenticity of news reports.Based on the translation practice,this report studies the Chinese translation of reported speech from the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis(CDA).According to Fairclough's three-dimensional framework,this report pays attention to exploring the translation of reported speech from the aspects of news sources,reporting contents and verbs,illustrating appropriate translation methods to state the standpoint of both the reporter and the translator under different backgrounds.The translator discusses what attitudes the news writers try to convey through quoting others' words:to appreciate,depreciate or remain neutral.In order to help readers grasp the gist of the news reports and the views of all parties at a better and faster way,the translator adopts such methods as adaptation,amplification,omission,lexical conversion and so on,hoping to restore the nature behind the news discourse as much as possible.
