Guangyun is a dictionary of rhyming words in the Song Dynasty,which has a great effect on the Chinese rhyme,is also significant document of study of medieval exegesis.It quotes from Shuowen,an another dictionary wrote in the Han Dynasty,excess 2000 words to support its definition.All in all,it is valuable to research those quotations.It is divided into two categories.One is explicit reference,which has been indicated the source form Shuowen.The other part is unconspicuous,but the paraphrase is same or similar with Shuowen.Comparing with Shuowen and find the similarities and differences between them,the thesis can examine the character about medieval exegesis.The first part investigate three kinds of situations.The quotations are identical,part of the same or different.The thesis focuses on variant characters,borrowed characters and some cognate words.The second part is original in choice of subject.By contrast two parts with Shuowen,the thesis makes the conclusion that social factors and linguistic factors contribute to language change,which is epitomized by the chance of meaning and a great enormous increase of new definitions.Finally,integrating with other dictionaries or ancient classics,the thesis will put right rectify mistakes about Guangyun and Shuowen.
