A Comparative Study On Idioms And Proverbs Contain "Dog" In Chinese And Vietnamese

Idioms and proverbs are typical linguistic unit of Vietnamese and Chinese.They are not only the important materials to study language,but also can make an important way to study culture.Animals have a close relation with Human beings,which have reflected obviously in Chinese and Vietnamese idioms anh proverbs.Now scholars are mainly focus on study of idioms and proverbs about whole animals,but not the single one.This paper focus on “dog” which have an intimate relation with human beings,collects Chinese and Vietnamese idioms and proverbs contain the word “dog”,compares the phenomenon of languages,and studies the background of it.Using theories of lexical semantics,cognitive linguistics and contrastive linguistics,this paper compares the quantity,length,meaning,collocation and metaphor of the idioms and proverbs which author has collected.And further study for background of language phenomenon will be taken,which based on the theory of cultural linguistics.In the end,conclusions have been drawn: first,the culture between Vietnam and China are of high similarity,which is because China is close to Vietnam,and have profound impact on culture of Vietnam;Second,environment,lifestyle,history and so on of hai country have some differences,thus the culture of Vietnam and China have some unique feature,which are also reflected in the languages.
