Proverbs and idioms are idiomatic expressions which are conventional, concise and incisive.As a stable system, it is one of the most important part of Chinese. However, proverbs andidioms coud be affected by the development and changing of the society, times and people’sconsciousness. Chinese Idioms are composed ordinarily of four words, which have sources.Here are the summary of the Dictionary of Modern Chinese about the intentions and thechanges on the inclusion of words and phrases in the30years in accordance with thepreliminary investigation on the four-word proverbs and idioms and further making acomparative analysis on the entries which are multiplied, deleted and modified in theDictionary of Modern Chinese(the2005edition).The thesis falls into four main parts:Part1: introduction. It is centrally concerned with the source and foucus of the issue,summing up the academic viewpoints on the general state of Chinese proverb and idioms andpresenting the approach, scope and the meaning of the research.Part2: In comparation with the four-word proverbs and idioms between the lastest andoriginal editions. It mainly aims at the comparasion of the types of the increased, the deletedand the revised, which showing the intentions and the changes on the inclusion of words andphrases in the30years of the Dictionary of Modern ChinesePart3: The reason analysis on the difference of the four-word proverbs and idioms.Part4: The discussion on the explanation of the four-word proverbs and idioms. As one themost idealest Chinese dictionary, the Dictionary of Modern Chinese has embodied thepainstaking efforts of many scholars. Nevertheless, compiling of dictionaries is too hard andhuge to avoid what should be revised. They are should not be neglected even though there arefew. Therefore, I tried to quote several examples.
