Dummy verbs are the verbs that do not have practical meaning but play a certain grammatical role in Chinese.The typical dummy verbs are Jinxing and Jiayi.These words can play a positive role in Japanese-Chinese translation,but because of the practical significance,it is also easy to lead to abuse.This paper aims to study how to correctly use Jinxing and Jiayi in Japanese-Chinese translation and explore the historical relationship between these two words and Japanese-Chinese translation in modern Chinese.The first chapter of this paper introduces the basic concepts of dummy verbs and functional verbs,defines the most typical dummy verbs Jinxing and Jiayi as the examples,then reviews the relevant literature,finding out that there is still a lot of space to study the dummy verbs in the field of Japanese-Chinese Translation.Based on Chinese-Japanese Bilingual Corpus,the second chapter points out when noun attributive structure in the original is beyond the capacity of Chinese sentence,the translator can use Jinxing to separate.Otherwise,it is not necessary to use Jinxing.The third chapter discusses to echo with the original,Jiayi helps prepose object.However,it can result in dislocation of language,unnatural expressions and even mistranslation.To sum up,the use of dummy verbs has advantages and disadvantages,and translators should use them correctly,basing on the characteristics of dummy verbs and the need of translation.Finally,with the Republic of China Journal Full Text Database,the fourth chapter analyzes Japanese-Chinese translation corpus in 1930s,and makes the conclusion that in modern Chinese,the extensive use of Jinxing and early Japanese-Chinese translation are closely related.
