In the context of globalization,UESCT Teaching Affairs Office entrusts the author to translate the education practice of the overseas universities. The English-Chinese translation report is based on the curriculum development of Olin College and San Francisco State University.During the translation process, the author makes linguistic analysis at vocabulary, syntax and context and points out the main difficulties in translation. The author applies Google Translate and analyzes the differences between human translation and machine translation and accordingly proposes strategies, such as parallel text, conversion, free translation for the translation of vocabulary;and amplification, omission and sentence structure alternation for the translation of sentences. The thesis aims to present the important differences between human translation and machine translation in the context of the promising machine translation, and more importantly,to provide constructive suggestions for translators as well as clients and achieve the balance between efficiency and quality. The report is under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory put forward by Eugene Nida. The theory focuses on the receptor's response. The criterion to evaluate the translation quality lies in the consistency between source text reader and the target text reader. As the target reader of the translation text is the administrative staffs who learn the foreign curriculum experience, the translator should put emphasis on their response and curriculum choices after reading the translation. This research report consists of four main parts. The first section gives a brief introduction of the background and significance of the translation task. The second section is to illustrate the description of the translation process, including preparation before translation, translation plan and quality control after translation. The third section, the main part of the report, deals with the collaboration of MT applied in the translation, including output of MT,advantages and limitations of MT and methods applied. The last section gives an overall summary of the translation practice.
