| This report is based on the translation of the first two chapters of Localizing Apps: A Guide for Translators and Translation Students,which is written by Ph.D.Johann Roturier,a senior principal research engineer at the Symantec Research Lab.Against the backdrop of globalization,exchanges among countries are getting closer,and the demand for translation and other kinds of language services soars.Over the recent years,thanks to the development of science and technology,substantial improvement has been made in the quality of machine translation.In spite of the fact that machine translation can increase the efficiency of translation,yet its quality is far from satisfactory.In this case,the mode of machine translation(MT)plus post-editing(PE)becomes a new trend to improve the quality of machine translation in the practice of the language service industry.Being a student majoring in the pathway of translation and localization management,the author has been exposed to translation technologies during the last two year's study.As English of science and technology(EST),the source text is characterised by the frequent and repeated use of terminologies,so it is suitable to be processed by the mode of machine translation and post-editing.Therefore,the author attempts to translate the source text with Trans God,a machine translation engine,and manually edits the machine translation output to improve its quality.Based on this task,the author summarises an error model for machine translation,which classifies the errors into four categories,namely lexical,syntactic,discours,and other erros.The author also discusses approaches of post-editing based on selected examples.The author hopes to further his understanding of machine translation and postediting through this practice,and accumulate necessary knowledge in the field of software localization for his professional career.Furthermore,the author also seeks to make some contribution to the development of software localization in China. |
