Experienced the glory of the Western and Eastern Han Dynasties,the lacquer ware were entered the transition stage during the Three Kingdoms to the Northern and Southern Dynasties.Under the background of the war,the economic center shifted southward and the great integration of the nation,the development of lacquer ware were restricted by various factors as follows.Firstly,porcelain developed.Secondly,climate change caused the paint tree to grow southward.Thirdly,social environment and social morality had been reviewed.Still lacquer ware inherited the sophisticated technology of Han Dynasty and developed the innovation.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction.Firstly,the subject and related concepts discussed in this paper are described and defined and combed the relative studies of lacquer ware during this period.Then introduced the purpose and significance of this paper,the research ideas and methods,the history and the present situation,and the innovation are described.The second part takes a brief view of the archaeological finds of the lacquer ware.The lacquer ware can be divided into four categories during each period of time:Food utensils,household appliances,wenfang category,funeral tools.This part analyzes typologically typical artifacts of every category and the new type implements which never showed before the Three Kingdoms,trying to explore the origins of their developments.The third part discusses the main decorative techniques and pattern types of lacquer ware during this period.This period has also used monochrome painting,cone painting and attached gold foil sheets to decorate patterns in addition,no longer pursuing the luxuriant extravagant adornment style as Han Dynasty used to.Lacquer ware of the early period of Wu Dynasty inherited the decorative techniques of the Han Dynasty to a certain extent.However,lacquer painting in the Three Kingdoms,the Western and Eastern Jin,the Northern and Southern Dynasties paid more attention to portray characters look and create a vivid image.Lacquer paintings at that time gave us a picture of aristocratic life,agricultural life as so on,and tried to to publicize feudalism to their people.In the fourth part launched a typological analysis of the burial which lacquer ware was carried out.Because the development process of the lacquer ware itself is ambiguous,the typological analysis of the burial gives a new angle of view to explorer time evolution,spatial distribution,owners and users problems of lacquer wares.The fifth part is conclusion.To summarize the previous text,deepen the understanding,with more and more archaeological findings of the physical information filled with the research blank of lacquer wares during the Three Kingdoms,Eastern and Western Jin and the Northern and Southern Dynasties period.The lacquer ware absorbed cultural factors during this period—such as Buddhist culture,scholar painting skills,new shapes of objects that popular among nobility to enrich themselves.This paper makes a holistic study of the lacquer wares in the stage of be-tween the preceding and following,attempts to explore its cultural connotation using archaeological materials.
