A Study On Quality Of Talents Cultivation In English Major Of Undergraduate Universities In Shanxi Province

In 2015,The National Standard of Teaching Quality in University English Majors clearly announced that English majors should establish scientific concept of talents cultivation and regard the improvement of quality of talents cultivation as the most important task.English majors of universities in Shanxi province have undergone a rapid development and sent a large numbers of outstanding English talents to Shanxi province and the central region of China.Shanxi province have set up 30 undergraduate universities,and there are 23 undergraduate universities that have established English majors till 2014,with up to 12068 enrolled students being taught.However,the expanding of English majors of universities in Shanxi province leads to some problems like the difficulty of graduates employment and the decline in the quality of talents cultivation.In this background,this study focuses on the current situation of quality of talents cultivation in English major of unversities in Shanxi province by using literature method,textual analysis method and questionnaire method.It also finds out the existing problems and the reasons,and puts forward corresponding countermeasures.First of all,this study reviews related literature on the subject.On basis of previous study,it defines the related concepts,such as major,English major,quality of talents cultivation.It also introduces theoretical basis including the theory of human's overall development,total quality management theory and stakeholder theory.Secondly,this study focuses on the current situation of quality of talents cultivation in English major of unversities in Shanxi province by combining the textual analysis method and questionnaire method.This part of the study is carried out from three aspects,that is,the basic conditions of English major,the program of talents cultivation and the situation of students' learning and employment.Based on the current situation of quality of talents cultivation in English major of unversities in Shanxi province,this study tries to find out the problems lying in it and figure out their causes.The expressions of target of talents cultivation are similar and neglect the cultivation of humanistic literacy and innovative ability.As for the construction of teaching staff,there are problems such as unreasonable structure of teaching staff,obsolete teaching method and weak scientific research ability.As for the curriculum construction,there are problems such as unreasonable curriculum structure and lacking of humanities courses and practical courses.Finally,the corresponding countermeasures are put forward to improve quality of talents cultivation from the following aspects.Countermeasures on scientific orientation of targets of talents cultivation are including that the expressions of targets of talents cultivation reflect individuality and commonness as well as emphasize the cultivation of humanistic literacy and innovative ability.Strengthening the construction of teaching staff need to focus on bringing elite teachers,optimizing structure of teaching staff,updating teaching concepts and teaching methods,and increasing the intensity of in-service teacher training in order to promote teachers'professional development.Strengthening curriculum construction need to focus on optimizing curriculum structure to meet the requirements,paying attention to the humanities courses and practical courses in order to promote talents' overall development.
