This report is based on the author's translation practice of a masterpiece in the field of historical records.The History of the Medieval World:From the Conversion of Constantine to the First Crusade is written by a famous author,Susan Wise Bauer who has got a great reputation by her typical way of writing historical books.First of all,a brief introduction is going to be made to this translation project from the aspects of the author,the original text and related preparations on the translating task.Then stylistics,as the theoretical foundation of the paper,is introduced from its definition,evolution process and stylistic features of the source language.The core sector of this paper is generally explored through making an analysis over the translated text in terms of word-sense discrimination,modal translation of sentences as well as apperception of hypertext form.The last section mentioned in this part mainly explores functional equivalence,handling with barriers when it comes to cultural differences in the process of translation,which is beneficial to the quality of the author's translation practice,with a purpose of testifying the strategy's feasibility and limitations ultimately.Since the aim of this study is to survey the theory of stylistics at the translation of historical materials.Then this paper comes down to a natural conclusion about summarized experience in translating such kind of historical records and the target language text also presents similar effects.Finally,the author points to the limitations of the paper with a view to providing experiences and references for other translators.
