A Research On The English Version Of A Bite Of China From The Perspective Of Ecological Translation Studies

A Bite of China, a domestic documentary produced by CCTV, shows not only traditional Chinese food culture, but traditional Chinese thoughts and values. It is so popular that it even caused a chain of “butterfly effect”at home and abroad. Ecological translation studies is a relatively new theory based on the whole translational eco-environment, it proposes a serial of applicable translation strategies and methods and plays a constructive role for the translation research and practice..The author firstly analyses the current situation of ecological translation studies and A Bite of China through literature review, then introduces the key notions like translation principles and process of ecological translation studies. After that, based on the theory of adaptation and selection, the author makes a case study of A Bite of China from linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions with the hope of finding out the appropriate translation strategies and method and verifying the interpretation power of ecological translation studies as well as enrich researches on the English version of A Bite of China.After a careful comparison and contrast, the author finds that the adaptive selection of translation methods like inversion, omission, addition and conversion are of great help in the translation studies and practice of A Bite of China. When it comes to the translation of culture-loaded expressions, the combination of transliteration and annotation can not only preserve and promote Chinese cultural characteristics but also meet the target audience's reading habits and thinking modes without losing the communicative intention.Finally, the author hopes that the research on the implications of the translation strategies and methods would benefit cross-cultural communication and give a reference for more researches on excellent domestic documentaries.
