A Bite of China has enjoyed national and international popularity since it was first aired in 2012.Although this documentary successfully “goes global”,whether it has been widely accepted abroad remains a discussable issue.Chapter One of this paper introduces previous researches on the spreading of Chinese culinary culture and Chinese scholar's studies on translation and communication of A Bite of China in terms of its translation strategies, communication mode and cultural connotations. With Lasswell's model of communication,Chapter Two studies the corpus of the English version of A Bite of China(the official translation by CCTV)and compares it with two other books(How to Cook and Eat in Chinese by Buwei Yang Chao and The Land of the Five Flavors by Thomas H?llmann).Characteristics of the three works can hopefully be captured through control, media, content, audience and effect analyses, and features of A Bite of China in the course of communicating culinary culture are summarized.Based on the effect analysis of Chapter Two,Chapter Three further digs into the reasons why it is welcomed/criticized in the process of the communication, and gives suggestions on the translation and communication of future works on Chinese culinary culture.
