In the modern society with rapid development, our country is in the period of economic transition. The development of internet technology has created a certain kind of people called otaku and phubbing. These years, these social phenomena particularly have existed in the crowd of college students, which causes us to think of the reasons of the sense of alienation among college students. The factors, causing the sense of alienation, are classified into the environmental factors and personal factors. Previous studies have shown that the factors of parental rearing and self-esteem will have important impact on the formation of the sense of alienation.Methods: Alienation Scale in Adolescent Students(ASAS), Parenting Style Scale(EMBU) and Self-esteem Scale(SES) were used to measure 450 college students in Wuhan. A total of 324 valid questionnaires were collected. One-Way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis were used for examining the effects of parental rearing and self-esteem in the sense of alienation and its dimensions.Results:(1) The score of the sense of interpersonal alienation was lower than the other two dimensions. From the point of the sense of alienation and of social alienation,the score of single children was higher than non-single children, as well as male higher than female. From the point of the sense of interpersonal alienation,the score of single children was higher than non-single children. From the point of the sense of environmental alienation,the score of art students were higher than the other students, as well as senior than the others. And these statistical data were obviously significant(P<0.05).(2) Parental rearing, self-esteem and the sense of alienation were tested to be obviously correlated. And the sense of alienation and three dimensions of it could be obviously predicted by self-esteem.(3)The effect parental rearing having on the sense of alienation among college students was partly mediated by self-esteem.Conclusion: Study confirmed after children leaving family environment, the connection was still existed among parenting pattern, self-esteem and the sense of alienation among college students. It was found that higher level of self-esteem and positive parenting rearing could reduce the sense of alienation, and lower level of self-esteem and negative parenting rearing could increase the sense of alienation. The sense of alienation among college students was influenced by parental rearing through self-esteem. It made this study significant to make deeper exploration that how to build physical and mental health among college students.
