A Comparative Study On The Underclass Aesthetic Taste Between Journey To The West And Gargantua & Pantagruel

The "bottom" is a way of narration, which main expression form is to show the reaction and requests towards the intellectuals'real life. "Taste" is an important contents of aesthetic reserach, and is a kind of instinct sensitivity, experience and creation. Based on a story of Master Xuanzang's journey to the holy Buddhist land to learn Buddhism, "Journey To the West" describes all the adventures through the form of travel notes, and uses odd and unbelievable imagination to illustrate the desire of the bottom of fighting against the authorities and changing their lives. "Gargantua & pantagruel" is a story of 3 generations of kings, and shows us an absurd and rich picture of lives of people of different walk and from which we can get their wish of self liberation. This article is going to talk about the following topics:Firstly, from the aspect of bottom aesthetic and analyze the characters' creator's identification, and the characteristics of the characters, focusing on supporting roles like the Monkey King and Zhu Bajie; and the survivors in the square like Gargantua, who is one of the typical giant in European Carnival.Secondly, Through analyzing "Journey To the West" and "Gargantua & pantagruel", which plots are different from current common ones, the article presents us how unique the two works were as they also narrate the stories of people of the bottom. The article tried to show people a good example that popular literature works of the bottom level should be made out of experience from field studies on them.Thirdly, analyzed the reasons of the taste of people from the bottom. The two works demonstrate the common requests of living, as fighting against the existing order of the society, and pursuing happy lives and cross-social level communication. "Journey To the West" is one of the rare examples in Chinese history of literature.Fourthly, from the research on the above 3 topics, make comparison and contrast between different taste of people from the bottom, and summarize briefly the common taste of the two works topics of self liberation and self release, and other social topics. The common topics of the two works show us the similarities of social taste under different culture background, thus, people can understand and appreciate the two works with depth.
