China's booming economy has brought the prosperity of culture and made Chinese literature well known to the world. As a bridge of cross-cultural communication, translation plays an important role for national literature in stepping into the world. Culture-loaded words (CLWS), as a reflection of cultural features, can be seen in many Chinese literary works. However, due to the differences between West and China in the aspects of language and culture, it is really difficult to have an accurate translation of CLWS. So it makes translation a complex task to find expressions which correspond to these CLWS in the target language. This paper, based on the Schema Theory, aims at analyzing how the C-E translation strategies have been employed by using the culture-loaded words from Roushi's masterpiece A Slave Mother as research data, from the perspective of the differences between Chinese and the Western Culture. This study introduces the current research situation of CLWS and reclassified the CLWS of this novel. By applying the schema theory into case study of CLWS, the paper discusses how to select the translation strategies under the three kinds of schemata, i.e. overlapped schemata, vacant schemata and divergent schemata. It points out that translator with good qualities should keep keen awareness and consciousness of cultures, continuously enrich their schema knowledge of cultures in order to further Chinese culture transmission and make more excellent Chinese literature works known in the world. This study is of significance and reference value to realize the cross-cultural communication, especially to arouse more interest in culture schema and improve accuracy and appropriateness of C-E translation of culture-loaded words.
