A Report On Chinese-English Translation Of Research On Buyei Culture

With the increasingly frequent international exchanges and the booming tourism in Chinese minority areas,tourism translation has become an important means for foreign tourists to learn about the unique culture of Chinese minorities.High-quality tourism translation has great significance in the transmission of ethnic cultures,the establishment of the international image of minority people,the enhancement of international business exchanges and also the promotion of tourism in minority areas.In recent years,in order to attract the attention of the tourists from other countries,Buyei people have made great efforts to develop their special tourist industry.Tourism translation,as a new way to show the distinctive and rich culture,is helpful not only in transmitting the culture,but also in promoting the local tourist industry in Buyei region.Based on the translation of Research on Buyei Culture,a work by Wei Qiguang,and Peter Newmark's translation theory,this report summarizes the translation strategies and approaches of Buyei-laden words through specific classification of the culturally-loaded words in the text.Buyei-laden words,which are loaded with distinct features and national culture,functionally aim to bring the uniqueness of Buyei culture and language to the outside world.The translation practice shows that a translation of Buyei-laden words should focus on semantic translation with communicative translation as a supplementary strategy,on maximum preservance of original style and form with the acceptability for target readers considered.In order to achieve equivalent cross-culture communication effect,a tourist translation of Buyei-laden words can combine strategies of both domestication and foreignization though such translation approaches as transliteration,literal translation,explanation,free translation and substitution.
