| In our daily life,we try to understand others’actions by appealing to reasons,and evaluate these actions according to the reasons we ascribe to them.Reasons can be guidance to our practical life.Many moral philosophers put their attentions to the problem of reasons for actions,and the problem has come to occupy an increasingly important place in ethics.There are two kinds of answers to this question:internalism about reasons and externalism about reasons.Among these answers,Bernard Williams’ conception of internal reasons has aroused widespread controversy.The disputes between Williams and John McDowell reveale the core issues concerning the nature of reasons for actions. |
