| The relationship between father involvement and the rehabilitation efficacy of disabled children was discussed in this paper.For the quantitative research part,Survey 1 investigated 114 families with disabled children,including 92 boys and 22 girls,using self-designed Father Involvement Questionnaire and Disabled Children’s Rehabilitation Efficacy Questionnaire.The children’s average age in this survey was 5.89(SD=2.64),and fathers’ was 37.34(SD=5.81).For the qualitative research part,semi-structured interview was used in Survey 2.Ten families with disabled children were recorded by depth interview.The sample was composed of 12 parents or grandparents from 10 families with disabled children.Research findings show that:1.Father involvement in families with disabled children was generally poor with the lack of ways to involve in children’s care and education.2.Father involvement had significant correlation to the rehabilitation efficacy of disabled children.Specifically,significant correlation existed between function development of children and all dimensions of father involvement;behavior and social performance correlated with all dimensions of father involvement except material support;self-care ability correlated with father’s accompany and material support;concentration was remarkbly correlative with father accompany,social skills learning and role model.3.In this research,fathers from Shanghai and Suzhou had no significant difference in their involvement;children of the two groups had significant difference in their rehabilitation efficacy.4.Biological factor and the role model dimension of father involvement significantly predicted children’s rehabilitation efficacy.5.Acquisition of scientific skills contributed to children’s rehabilitation efficacy,which eliminate the negative effects of poor father involvement to some extent. |
