International Chinese Education in China is a significant component of International Chinese Education.However,the overseas International Chinese Education,especially the development and influence of the Confucius Institutes,has always received much more attention from the researchers based on the perspective of public diplomacy.In the process of interaction between foreign learners and Chinese teachers,it is found that the uncomprehending phenomena that foreign learners encountered in China have an influence on their impressions of China,and some of the uncomprehending phenomena might have caused misunderstandings for foreign learners.Therefore,public diplomacy is introduced into the research of International Chinese Education in China.Using qualitative research method-group interviews and one-on-one interviews,this study studies the two participants in public diplomacy:foreign learners' communicating willingness and Chinese teachers' public diplomacy competence.Firstly,this study found out the classifications,the sources,the influence,the coping styles,the expected coping styles of the uncomprehending phenomena that foreign learners encountered in China and foreign learners' communicating willingness.The uncomprehending phenomena that foreign learners encountered in China involve all aspects of the whole society and have an influence on their impressions of China.The sources of the uncomprehending phenomena and the coping styles of foreign learners are various.Chinese teachers' explanation is the most expected coping style.Foreign learners are willing to communicate other foreigners.Secondly,this study found out Chinese teachers' coping styles,the effect of coping styles to the questions raised by the foreign learners about the uncomprehending phenomena that they encountered in China and their public diplomacy competence.Chinese teachers have different coping styles.They only regard themselves as communicators of Chinese culture.There are some problems in Chinese teachers'public diplomacy with foreign learners.Chinese teachers don't regard themselves as participants of public diplomacy.They are not very confident about their public diplomacy competence.They are willing to improve the public diplomacy competence by taking courses or training.In the end,this study puts forward some suggestions for the cultivation and improvement of Chinese teachers'public diplomacy competence,from the perspective of Chinese teachers,universities and colleges and teaching institutions.
