The Research On Topic Structure In San Bao Tai Jian Xi Yang Ji Tong Su Yan Yi

"Topic" in Chinese was put forward as the research object in the late 1960 s,and many scholars have studied on it since then.The researches mainly focus on the aspects of contemporary Chinese,dialect,national language and ancient Chinese,including the study of one aspect of topic,the study of one book,the contrastive study of ancient and contemporary Chinese.But there are few researches on the topic of modern Chinese.Modern Chinese is an important part of the history of Chinese language,so it is necessary to study it.San Bao Tai Jian Xi Yang Ji Tong Su Yan Yi(abbreviated as “Xi Yang Ji” in the follows)was written in Wanli era of the late Ming dynasty,and many dialogues in this book can reflect the language features of that time.This paper takes Xi Yang Ji as the research object,focuses on the topic structure in the context of the sentences,discusses the components and means of the topic as well as the type of semantic relations.This paper tries to do some additional work to help fully understand the basic situation of the topic structure of modern Chinese,at the same time,it makes a simple comparison with the topic structure of contemporary Chinese.This article is divided into four parts:The first chapter reviews the general situation of the research on the "topic" in Chinese,including topic and subject,topic marker,topic structure and the contrastive study with other languages.Then it clarifies the significance of the research,introduces Xi Yang Ji's versions,illustrates the definition of topic,the theoretical basis and methods of the research.Chapter 2 analyzes the structure of topic in Xi Yang Ji,clarifies the basic forms of topic-comment,discusses the components of topic,and makes comparison with the components of topic of contemporary Chinese.Chapter 3 analyzes the means of the topicalization in Xi Yang Ji which includes topic marker and sequence.It also summarizes the types and discourse functions of topic maker while sequence discusses fronted object acting as a topic.Chapter 4 classifies the types of semantic relations in topic structure.It classifies the topic sentences in Xi Yang Ji on the basis of existing research achievements of topic sentences in contemporary Chinese,and makes comparison with the topic sentences in contemporary Chinese.
