In recent years,the significance of academic translation has become more and more obvious since international academic exchanges have become increasingly frequent.Therefore,academic translation has received increasing attention.Compared with the researches on practical translation and literary translation,the researches on academic translation are relatively few in China.Moreover,in terms of research object,most of the existing researches focus on the quality and standards of academic translation,or term translation in academic texts.A few scholars focus on the application of translation techniques in academic translation.However,the researches on the application of translation techniques are more practical.Therefore,this report will explore the application of translation techniques in academic translation.This report is based on the translator‘s English-Chinese translation of Religious Semiotics that is an academic symposium written by Professor Massimo Leone and mainly introduces the author‘s thinking and findings in the field of religious semiotics.The source text is an informative text and its major function is informative function.The translator,under the guidance of the ?functional equivalence? theory of Eugene Nida and combining with the features of the source text,adopted relevant translation techniques to achieve the functional equivalence between the source text and the target text.This report consists of five parts.Chapter One is the introduction,which introduces the significance of the translation task and the background of the report.Chapter Two represents the analysis of the source text,which includes the introduction to the source text and the analysis of the features of the source text at lexical,syntactic and discourse levels.Chapter Three is the introduction to the guiding theory.In this part,the translator introduces the development and important concepts of Nida‘s ?functional equivalence? theory,and explains the applicability of the ?functional equivalence? theory to the source text translation.Chapter Four is the case study,which is the main part of this report.In this part,the translator explores the application of some translation techniques to achieve functional equivalence between the source text and the target text at the lexical level,syntactic level and discourse level.Chapter Five is the conclusion,which concludes the application of translation techniques adopted by the translator in the process of translating.In this report,the translator explores the application of translation techniques to achieve functional equivalence in academic translation,hoping that this report may provide some references for other translators to do academic translation.
