This report is based on the translation practice of bidding documents issued by Shandong Iron&Steel Group Co.,Ltd.(SISG),namely,Subpackage C(Main Motor and Main Drive System)International Bidding Technical Document of 3800mm Steckel Mill Project. It is a Chinese-English translation with a total number of about 15,126 words. The source text is a bidding document with explicit objectives and purpose. In the translation process, the translator makes utmost efforts to convey the information accurately, which helps the client to have a good understanding of the bidding document so as to win a successful bid.For accurate translation of technical terms and long sentneces, the translator adopts semantic translation strategies, such as linear translation in words translation and sequential translation in long sentences indicating relations.Communicative translation strategies are applied when appropriate comprehension and fluency are required. For example, the strategy of conversion of a part of speech was adopted in lexical expressions. The strategies applied at syntactic level are the adoption of the passive voice and flexible application of "It","There be" patterns. The translation practice proves that Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation can attribute the accuracy of the translation, and be accepted by the target language readers.Through some corresponding strategies adopted under the guidance of Newmark's translation theory, the author hopes to reveal something valuable for the bidding document translation.
