Jia Pingwa,a famous writer in Shaanxi Province, gains the high reputation at home and abroad.Meanwhile,he is a representative figure in the Chinese native-soil literary field, and most of his works describe Shaanxi local culture. And his representative works are Shaanxi Opera,Ruined City,Turbulence, etc.Howard Goldblatt,a well-known sinologist, enjoys high reputation in the translation field. He is interested in works of Chinese native-soil literature,so that he translated most works by Mo Yan,such as Red Sorghum,Big Breasts and Wide Hips,Wine Country,Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out,Sandalwood Punishment, etc.Since Ruined City by Jia Pingwa was published in 1990s,it has owned different versions. Its English version Ruined City by Howard Goldblatt was published in 2016 and accepted warm welcome in America.According to Eugene Nida's classification to culture-loaded terms, about 500 cultured-loaded terms are figured out and classified into five categories---material culture-loaded terms, ecological culture-loaded terms, social culture-loaded terms, religious culture-loaded terms, linguistic culture-loaded terms.By analyzing those culture-loaded terms, the author concludes six translation methods which were chosen by Howard Goldblatt. Then, the author analyzes six translation methods from the perspective of Skopos Theory. Two methods were chosen under the guidance of Skopos Rule,Free Translation and Deculturation.Under the direction of Fidelity Rule,Literal translation and transliteration were chosen, while Substitution and Omission meets the requirement of Coherence Rule. The research demonstrates the importance of Skopos Theory in the process of translation.Only by mastering two or more kinds of cultures, can translators express the true meaning of the original works. It also reminds us that translator must be a real "cultured man".
