Science fiction is the "hybrid" of literature and science fantasy, serving as a supplement to the subtypes of literature. It features literariness, scientificity and fantasy.Good science fiction can not only disseminate scientific and cultural knowledge and broaden the horizons of the readership, but help inspire the imagination and creativity of the readership. In this translation project, the translator chose Hao Jingfang's novel Interplanetary Nomads(part ?,chapter 1-3)as source text. This novel narrates how a group of youngsters raised in two different regimes and cultures on Mars and earth seeking for the truth of who they are.Despite of the fact that it is a science fiction, the fiction displays beautiful language and delicate writing. The translating is conducted under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence. The functional equivalence makes the target language and its culture the key and centers on the target text and its readership. In the translation practice, the translator pays attention to the reproduction of the message and style of the source text, and tries to make the receptor' s response to the translation version consistent with the original text reader' s response to the source text.To have a better realization of equivalence, the translator has adopted Nida's translation model, that is,analysis, transference and reconstruction. The translator deals with the translating in a flexible way to produce a natural translation. As to the science fiction elements, the translator tries to render them more accurate and readable,in hope of making it easily understood and acceptable for the target reader. This translation report consists of four chapters. The first chapter is task description, making introduction to the translation project and its significance, the author and contents of the excerpts. The second chapter deals with translation process and it includes theory preparation and quality control. The third chapter presents case study under the guidance of functional equivalence, analyzing the translation from the angles of figures establishment, environment description and figure of speech. The last one is conclusion. The translator summarizes experiences and lessons learned form the translation practice.
