The paper is an English-Chinese translation report and the source text is excerpted from an English review article Science Fiction: The New Critical Idiom(Chapter IV).The author chose this article because there are a few study on translation of science fiction on the Internet and less study on development history of science fiction and relative social problems reflected in science fiction. For these existing versions still face many translation problems including grammatical errors, misuses of words and misunderstanding of some cultural background etc.The aim of this translation report is to introduce the inherent social problems reflected in science fiction,to discuss translation methods of long complex sentences and cultural-loaded words, and to provide reference to the English to Chinese translation of science fiction and review articles.During the process of translation practice, the author paid attention to characteristics of both Chinese and English, including the differences between the two cultures.Simultaneously, there are many names, titles of books and films,terminology,culture-loaded words, polysemy, passive voice sentences, through consulting related books and documents, the author should not only transmit the meaning of the source text, but also ensure consistency of features between the source text and target text.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, the report quotes plenty of examples to display how the author solves those translation difficulties, and after the translation practice, the author draws a lesson from the experience and strive to make a further progress in the future study.
