Culture-loaded words are special vocabulary with cultural connotation.They are the critical factors to transmit cultural connotation in the process of English translation of Chinese classics.Translation differences of culture-loaded words intensively reflect the difference and quality of translated versions.ZhuangZi is one of the most representative works of Taoist school.It takes an important position in Chinese classic masterpieces with its special literary and philosophical nature.Abundant of culture-loaded words are carriers of the core ideas of ZhuangZi.These culture-loaded words have literary and philosophical characteristics which have impact on translation.Scholars at home and abroad have made a great achievement in studying translation differences of culture-loaded words,especially in translation methods and formation mechanism of translation differences of culture-loaded words.Cognitive construal theory is an important brunch of the Cognitive Linguistics.It is the base of the formation of concept and meaning.According to the construal classification proposed by Wang Yin,the cognitive construal mainly contains four dimensions including Scope&Background,Perspective,Prominence and Specificity.These four dimensions are interdependency and interaction.This paper mainly answer three questions:first,what aspects do the translation differences of culture-loaded words reflect in from the perspective of the construal.Second,what are the reasons that translation difference of culture-loaded words can form from the perspective of the construal.Third,how can the studying of translation differences of culture-loaded words promote the development of translation construal from the perspective of the cognitive construal.This paper mainly chooses Wang Rongpie's,Lin Yutang's,Feng Youlan's,Sam Hamill&J.P.Seaton's and other translators' English versions of ZhuangZi as research materials and chooses the culture-loaded words in ZhuangZi as research objects.This paper analyzes the translation differences of culture-loaded words.It explores the causes of different translation results to the same circumstance by different translators and studies the impact of construal factors on translation differences.In the meantime,this paper detailed studies the translation construal from the perspective of culture-loaded words.From the perspective of cognition and culture,it divides the Scope&Background into the Cognitive Scope and the Culture Background.From the perspective of observation angle,it divides the Perspective into the Objective Perspective and the Subjective Perspective.From the perspective of the way to achieve the Prominence,it divides the Prominence into the Functional Prominence and the Structure Prominence.From the perspective of description objects,it divides the Specificity into the Description Specificity and the Background Specificity.This paper adopts case analysis of qualitative method as research method to explore the translation differences of culture-loaded words from the perspective of construal by means of data collection and data analysis.This paper finds that the four dimensions and its four aspects impact on the translation differences of culture-loaded words.Translation process is restricted by translator's subjectivity.Translation of culture-loaded words is different due to the difference of construal ways.Scope&Background influences the cognitive domain and cultural connotation of culture-loaded words.Perspective influences presentation of culture-loaded words.Prominence influences emphasis aspect of culture-loaded words.Specificity influences elaborate degree of culture-loaded words.This paper analyzes translation differences of culture-loaded words in ZhuangZi from the perspective of the cognitive construal.It is the experiment of applying the construal theory into illuminating translation difference.It strives to expand the specific application of the construal theory and provide reference for better spread and interpret Chinese culture-loaded words.
