The source text in this Chinese-English translation practice report is from Chapter10 to Chapter 19 of A Happy Excursion—Appreciation of Chuang Tzu's Thoughts,which provides readers a new perspective by learning the classic Taoist masterpiece Chuang Tzu and helps people understand the history and culture of the Warring States period,and the profound influence of Chuang Tzu and his ideology on that time and later generations.There are two difficulties in translating: rational use of reference book to translate culture loaded words and metaphor translation.When translating culture loaded words,the translator consults the reference books directly and indirectly for improving the translation.Based on the western theories of metaphor—cognition and relevance,this paper analyzes the difficulties in the translation of Chinese-English metaphors in two ways: borrowing and annotation on the basis of maintaining the characteristics of metaphor.After the translator's analysis,specific cases are introduced in order to provide some inspiration and practical reference for the English translation of the same type of texts. |
