The translation report is based on translation material Paper Children which is extracted from Learning To Dance written by Elizabeth Jolley,an Australian writer.Paper Children mainly tells miserable stories of the protagonist Clara and her daughter.It reveals miserable life experiences and the inner feeling of social marginalized people.The translation material is a story which includes many plot descriptions,appearance descriptions and environmental descriptions.According to material features,the translator first introduces the background,characteristics and translation literature review.Then the translator introduces the translation process.On account of Jolley's obscure language and unique writing structure,the translator finds many obscure and abstract words and some unusual collocations in plot description and environmental description.In addition,how to utilize accurate and vivid language to describe character's appearance in appearance description.According to all of the above difficulties,the translator utilizes semantic extension,adjustment of word orders,amplification and Chinese four-character structure to analyze the case with examples and solve problems.Finally,the translator makes a summary,focusing on the reflection from translation practice,limitations and recommendations.The translator mainly solves the problem of abstract and obscure words and unusual collocation in plot,appearance and environmental description and endeavors to convey the original content accurately.Besides,the translator wants to provide a reference for translators studying the similar materials.
