The text selected for the translation practice is Cabin Fever,a semi-autobiographical novel written by Australian female writer Elizabeth Jolley.The writing style of the novel is inclined to be very personal.It is based on personal experience,which is interspersed with a large amount of reality and memories.Jolley takes the advantage of the first-person narrative to make the characters in the novel to come alive through the delicate description of the characters,as if showing forth in her writing.The translator chooses the beginning of the novel as translation task and proposes the appropriate translation strategies,by analyzing the different writing features of conversation,character,psychology,to reproduce the descriptions of the characters,which include liberal translation,domestication,conversion,and inversion.In the translation practice,the translator summarizes the translation strategies of character description based on analyzing the characteristics of the source text,hoping to provide a reference for the translation research of character description in novels.
