The translation of biographical literature in literary translation is welcomed by many readers.This is a report on English-Chinese translation of an Australian work Doing life:A Biography of Elizabeth Jolley(chapter 10&excerpt of chapter 11),which is written by Australian professor Brian Dibble,The work is a biographical literature.This work is mainly a description of the life of the writer Elizabeth Jolley.Biography,which reflects the life experience of the leading characters,also reflects the social condition and people’s life at that time.It has important historical research and reference value.The chosen part of the story’s in the 1980s.There are four parts in the report:the description of the translation task,the description of the translation process,the analysis of the case of translation and conclusion.The third part is the central part of the report,which includes translation difficulties and strategies.Under the guidance of Peter Newark’s communicative translation theories,this report will mainly analyze two aspects:translation methods of preposition,translation methods of nominal clause,including object and appositive clause.The main translation methods discussed in the third part are amplification,word conversion,linear translation,recasting and correlative translation method.In the process of translation,the translator realizes that Peter Newark’s Communicative Translation is of great value in guiding the practice of literary translation,and The translator also knows there is a hard and long way to become a qualified translator.The translator sincerely hopes that this report would provide reference for literary translators.
