A Report On The E-C Translation Of A Scattered Catalogue Of Consolation By Elizabeth Jolley

The translation material of the translation practice report was selected from the several parts of A Scattered Catalogue of Consolation in Australian female writer Elizabeth Jolley's collection Learning to Dance.Elizabeth Jolley(1923-2007)is one of the Australia's most famous writers.She published 14 novels,4 short stories and an autobiography,and many of her works won the literary awards.In A Scattered Catalogue of Consolation,Jolley recalled her childhood,talked about her family,and mentioned many of her previous works which including fragments,characters and scenes,and she wrote about the source of inspiration for the creation of these works,as well as the impact of these works on herself.The translation practice report was divided into four parts.The first part described the translation task.The second part described the translation process.The third part was translation case analysis.The last was conclusion.The third part was the core content.The translator described the difficulties encountered in the process of translation and the translation methods adopted.Guided by Yan Fu's translation principle of Faithfulness,Expressiveness and Elegance,the translator analyzed the translation difficulties in the text,such as the translation of pronouns,parentheses and long sentences with complicated structures,and adopted omission,substitution,preposition,embedding,keeping the original sequence,reversing the original sequence to solve the above difficulties.The translator hopes that this translation practice can provide reference for readers who like Jolley's works and contributes her own strength to literary translation.
