With the further development of teaching and research activities in higher education,University classroom teaching situation has aroused people's highly attention,it was found that the phenomenon of university classroom silence was gradually becoming worse.As the place of profound knowledge,University bears the important task of conveying talents for society.The emergence of silence in the classroom hinders the normal communication between teachers and students,It's not conducive to the development of students' communicative competence,It has an apparent negative effect on the quality of university English training undoubtedly.In addition,in recent years,the internationalization of English is getting higher and higher,the demand for English talents is also being increasing.University English classrooms serve as the main channel to cultivate English talents,we must make timely reformation and adjustment to stimulate the enthusiasm of students' participation in English learning,and finally to alleviate the present situation of classroom silence.On the basis of the relevant research,this paper chooses the students of non-English majors of undergraduate course of XXX University as the research object,and studies the phenomenon of university English classroom silence through classroom observation,interview and questionnaires.Firstly,it describes the situation of university English classroom silence with the teaching practice.Then,exploring the root causes from the aspects of teachers,students and the environment.Finally,it puts forward some specific improved strategies from teachers' and students' knowledge,skills and psychology.So,students can actively participate in classroom questions and discussion,activate classroom atmosphere.The emergence of university English classroom silence of students is as follows.They can not answer,they dare to answer and they are not willing to answer the questions during classes.The author maintains that the phenomenon of university English classroom silence is as a result of the subjective and objective factors of teaching and learning,which is mainly due to the defects of the teachers 'teaching perception and ability accomplishment,as well as the restriction of students' knowledge,skills and psychological factors.This study comes up with the countermeasures to improve the phenomenon of university English classroom silence from teachers,students and environment.Including that teachers should improve their overall quality of teaching,students should improve their comprehensive learning ability,besides,to create a good English learning environment.Only teachers and students to work together in order to mobilize students to participate in classroom initiative,breaking the English classroom silence.
