Peer relationship is of great importance interpersonal relationship for children and adolescents. It has a great influence on academic, emotional and behavioral adaptation of children and adolescents.Peer relationship in floating children is relatively poorer than urban children.Empathy ability is conducive to the development of individual peer relationship. The study is aim to explore the impact of empathy training for peer relationship and empathy ability of floating children. Methods:We chose 30 participants from the fifth grade 55 non-welcome floating students in a Chong Qi primary school by the method of Positive and negative nomination, they all voluntarily participated in the study. They were randomly assigned to experimental group(n=10),control group(n=8,two students quitted)and blank group(n=10).The experimental group and the control group were trained twice a week,40 minuets each time, totally 9 weeks. The experimental group accepted empathy training, while control group took part in game activities, the blank group didn't accept any training. The Basic EmpathyScale(BES)scores and Peer Relations Questionnaire scores were estimated as dependent variable. The baseline and post-training datas were collected. When the experiment has been completed for three months,we performed the positive and negative nomination once again and respectively analyzed these scores of each group. Results: Scores between baseline and post-training existed significant difference among experimental group, control group and blank group(F=4.24,p=0.03),pair-ed comparison of variance analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group(t=6.75,p=0.03),and there also existed significant difference between the experimental group and the blank group(t=7.30,p=0.01).But we didn't find significant difference between control group and blank group. The Peer Relations Questionnaire scores did not differ among experimental group, control group and blank group between baseline and post-training.Conclusions:The empathy training can improve the cognitive empathy ability of floating children in primary schools, but can not change their peer relationship.
