The Prosperity And Academic Changes Of Zuo's Spring And Autum

Based on Lu history,Confucius wrote the Spring and Autumn,according to which he praised and criticized,and set up the ritual system.This book was later regarded as a sage classic.However,the meaning of the saints cannot be understood by normal people,leading to books of interpretation of the work.Zuo Zhuan is one of them.As one of the Three Biographies of the Spring and Autumn,Zuo Zhuan is very special,which twist the trends to be famous under the pressure of the scholars.This thesis intends to explore the differences between Zuo Zhuan and Zuo's theory,the rise of Zuo's theory,and the reason that Zuozhuan can be prosperous for long.This thesis consists of three parts.The first part discusses the formation and development of Zuo Zhuan and Zuo's theory under the time background.It mainly includes the following aspects: the relationship between Zuo Zhuan and Spring and Autum;the characteristic of Zuo Zhuan: history or Confucian classics;the role Zuo Zhuan plays in the debate between the old and current words which takes an important position in Han Dynasty.This part is of great help to the holistic understanding of Zuo Zhuan.The second part is about how Zuo's theory becomes famous from different perspectives,which includes Confusion perspective and history perspective.In terms of Confusion perspective,four aspects are introduced: how Zuo's theory develops from low status to an official standard level,leading to the prosperous development in East Han Dynasty;the status twist of Zuo's theory in Three Kingdoms period;at the period of Western Jin and Eastern Jin dynasty,Zuo's theory reached a new step with the help of The Annals of the Spring and Autumn;Zuo ZhuanZheng Yi in Tang Dynasty makes Zuo Zhuan the standard of imperial examination,which is the peak of Zuo Zhuan.In terms of history perspective,this thesis introduces the attitudes of historians towards Zuo Zhuan.Their affirmation strengthens the influence of Zuo Zhuan.The third part focuses on the academic analysis of Zuo Zhuan to find out the elements which change Zuo Zhuan from weak to famous: the own characteristics of Zuo Zhuan in interpretation;the influence of the changes in style of study;the self-development of Zuo Zhuan;and studies of the scholars later about the three biographies also move its development forward.In general,the historical thoughts and principles of Zuo Chuan and its connotation of "history and righteousness" make it important in the fields of Confucian classics and history.And it balances the relationship between them.Even though Zuo Zhuan is a forgery,its academic value cannot be ignored.
