The position of Spring and Autumn annals in the field of Confucian classics in the Han Dynasty can not be ignored.Confucianism in Han Dynasty generally likes to use the classics and biographies of Spring and Autumn annals as the theoretical basis for political discussion.The same is true of Liu Xiang and Liu Xin.Liu Xiang interpreted disasters with three biographies of Spring and Autumn.Liu Xin also interpreted disasters according to Zuo Zhuan.He also used astronomy and calendar knowledge in Zuo Zhuan to construct his academic system.In the early Western Han Dynasty,Confucianism in Han Dynasty generally only wrote "Spring and Autumn ",but did not write specific biographies.They did not distinguish the Classic of Spring and Autumn and the three biographies.But by the time of Liu Xiang and Liu Xin,they had begun to distinguish the Classic of Spring and Autumn and the three biographies,and Liu Xin's consciousness was more obvious.This consciousness also had a certain impact on Ban Gu's view of Spring and Autumn.From the perspective of Han Shu,Liu Xiang's quotation of "Spring and Autumn" refers to the Spring and Autumn sutra,which belongs to the narrow sense of "Spring and Autumn".This is different from Mencius,Dong Zhongshu and Sima Qian's "Spring and Autumn".Liu Xiang mainly deduced the three biographies of Spring and Autumn as a historical material,showing a unique style of learning.The ultimate purpose of his quotation Spring and Autumn sutra and three biographies is to persuade the monarch to maintain the orthodox status of Liu and Han Dynasty.Liu Xin quoted "Spring and Autumn" referring to the Spring and Autumn sutra and Zuo Zhuan,but mainly refers to the Spring and Autumn sutra.When he quoted the Spring and Autumn sutra and Zuo Zhuan,he presented them in the form of "Sutra Sayings" and "Chuanyue Sayings".Meanwhile,in his memorial to the throne appeared "Zuo Zhuan" for the first time.He mainly interpreted disaster and abnormal phenomena,studied calendar and argued for Zuo Zhuan on the basis of Zuo Zhuan.He quoted the Spring and Autumn sutra and Zuo Zhuan in order to save the royal family of the Western Han Dynasty by rebuilding the etiquette system and to construct a new kind of "relationship between heaven and man".The consciousness of distinguishing the sutra and biographies of Spring and Autumn began with Liu Xiang,and graduallybecame strong until Liu Xin,and finally affected Ban Gu.Although Ban Gu quoted "Spring and Autumn" referring to the Spring and Autumn sutra and three biographies respectively,mainly refers to the Spring and Autumn sutra.He basically distinguished the Spring and Autumn sutra and three biographies in his quotation of Spring and Autumn annals.Ban Gu's theory of "Heaven and Man Induction" also originated from Liu Xiang and Liu Xin.According to the historical materials of Zuo Zhuan,Ban Gu recognized the theory of "Han Emperor is the god of the south" in the Western Han Dynasty,thus demonstrating his praising Han Dynasty thought.
