Scale Development And Current Situation Research Of College Students' Interpersonal Contingencies Of Self-worth

The college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth refers to the degree of the college students' value of self evaluation and emotional experience affected by interpersonal relationship and events in the university campus.The purpose of this study was to develop the interpersonal contingencies of self-worth scale for college students,and to explore the status quo of college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth.Firstly,based on the literature review,through interviews and open questionnaire survey of 112 college students,i investigated the understanding of self-worth and which interpersonal relationship and events in the university campus influence self-worth,thus collect the key words of scale item bank to compile the initial questionnaire.Then the first and the second draft of the initial questionnaire were respectively used to collect data from 350 and 478 college students,and the data were analyzed by means of item analysis and exploratory factor analysis.After that,I compiled the formal college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth scale and tested its reliability and validity.Finally,I used the formal scale to investigate the status quo of 900 college students in five universities,and analyzed the difference test and interaction on gender,place of residence,the only child or not,grade,major,student cadres or not.The conclusions are as follows:First,the college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth scale has good index coefficients by testing its reliability and validity,which can be used as a measurable tool.The scale consists of three dimensions,each dimension has 6 items,a total of 18 items,15 items score positively,3 items score reversely.Three dimensions are contingencies of self-worth of group relationship,close friends and the teacher-student relationship.Second,the overall level of college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth is relatively high.The three dimensions according to the contingency from high to low are contingencies of self-worth of group relationship,close friends and the teacher-student relationship.Third,the total score of college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth andits three dimensions have significant differences in gender,and the girls are higher than boys.Fourth,the total score of college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth and its three dimensions are significantly different in the place of residence,and the students from the city are higher than those from the countryside.Fifth,there is no significant difference in the total score of college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth and its three dimensions in the only child or not.Sixth,the total score of college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth and its three dimensions have significant differences in the major category,and the science students are higher than the liberal arts students.Seventh,the total score of college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth and contingencies of self-worth of group relationship,close friends have significant differences in grade,and the contingency of self-worth of teacher-student relationship is not significantly different in the grade.The second grade was significantly lower than the other three grades.Eighth,there is a significant difference in the contingency of self-worth of close friends relationship in student cadres or not.The scores of other students are higher than those of student cadres.Other dimensions and the total score of college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth are not significantly different in student cadres or not.Ninth,there is significant interaction of the total scores of college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth and the three dimensions in the demographic variables.This study presents the connotation of college students' interpersonal contingencies of self-worth,and explore its structure and actual situation by compiling the scale.Theoretically,this study enriches the content of contingencies of self-worth research.Practically,it assists the university managers in understanding the degree that how interpersonal relationship and incidents influence college students' self-worth.Thus they can take effective coping strategies.
