Character Research On Place Names In Hunan Province

As the proper nouns in the language,place names are a kind of convention symbol,which can refer to different regions and different directions.The study of place names theoretically provides basis and new materials for the research on languages and name management.Many of the research results on place names,but mostly involves in the investigation and interpretation of individual place names.This paper,based on the corpus of place names in Hunan Province,is a new attempt for regional research.This paper is divided into five parts,as follows:The first part briefly introduces the current situation of domestic toponymic research,clarifies the corpus source,research method and significance of topic selection.In the second part,under the premise of summarizing the situation of geography,history and administrative divisions of Hunan,this paper makes a comprehensive statistics on the administrative division names in Hunan Province,and analyzes the regional characteristics of place names.In the third part,the general name is sorted,and is divided into two categories: natural geography entity and human geography entity.Then,this paper analyzes the characteristics of the general names,and verbally investigates typical Chinese characters in the general names.Further more,in the fourth part,special words(including non-universal norms of Chinese characters,dialect words and other uncommon words)existing in place names are listed and explained.At last,an review and summary of the full text is carried out.Also,this paper points out the potential contributions and deficiency of the study.
