This is a translation practice report whose source text selects from the book Environmental Health Risk-Hazardous Factors to Living Species,which compiles plenty of essays from diverse sources into a single volume.It provides a set of practical discussions,and it tells that people have adopted some measures to reduce environmental health risk against environmental factors.The translator chooses Chapter One(“Pesticides,Environmental Pollution,and Health”),an essay co-authored by Arzu ?zkara,Dilek Aky?l and Muhsin Konuk,as the source text.This essay explains the nature,history,classification,risks of pesticides and their effects on health and the environment.It aims to stimulate new research ideas in the relevant fields in case of the illness of people and imbalance of ecology.The main contents of this translation practice report are divided into four parts: Chapter One is a general introduction,including the background,objectives,significance and structure of the report.Chapter Two describes the background of the source text,including author's introduction,publishing facts,major contents and linguistic features of the source text.Because the source text belongs to informative text,and its translation aims at transmitting the complete referential or conceptual meanings of the source text,which should ensure the readability of the target text.Chapter Three,the major part of this report,mainly discusses difficulties and techniques illustrated with some typical examples in translating.On the basis of the perspective of communicative translation by Newmark,the translator elaborated the ways of translating long sentences,abstract nouns and terminologies in the report.Moreover,the translator also employed five translation techniques,including division,combination,amplification,omission and conversion,to deal with the above difficulties specifically,which can be able to make the target text fluent and smooth.Chapter Four,as a summary,concludes with the lessons and unsolved problems in the translation practice report.
