E-C Translation Strategies Of Long Sentences Under Communicative Translation Theory

In contemporary society,communication industry is under rapid development,which has brought great influence on human beings‘ learning and life-style.In the context of globalization,the exchange and communication of development in information technology become more important than ever before.Therefore the translation of such kinds of books is badly in need.This translation project is chosen from Delivering the Digital Economy,which is a popular science book.As an informative text,this book consists of a large number of long sentences,and E-C translation of long sentences has always been the emphasis and difficult point.The key to this translation project is whether the translation of long sentences is proper or not.Therefore the translator needs to analyze and summarize all long sentences in this translation project,and choose suitable E-C translation strategy while translating.Newmark puts forward communicative translation theory on the basis of his years‘ translation practice.Newmark believes that the understanding of the translation to target readers should be the same as the understanding of the original text to source readers.Under the guidance of Newmark‘s communicative translation theory,the translator could break the limitations of the original text,and make simon-pure translation,which is easy to be understood by Chinese readers.In this project,the translator mainly adopted four kinds of translation strategies readjusting word order,including Embedding,Cutting,Reversing,and Splitting-off.The choice and implementation of these strategies are all under the principle of communicative translation theory.The translator firstly cut and split long sentences,then reordered these sentences according to Chinese idiomatic expression,and finally made simon-pure translation.Through this translation practice,the translator has found that communicative translation strategy provided huge guidance to popular science translation.The translator should flexibly combine different translation skills and strategies to improve translation quality.In addition,the translation of popular science should be easy to read and understand,which means that translator should have a large knowledge base and strong Chinese expressing skills.
