A Practice Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Long Sentences From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation Theory

Nowadays,positive psychology has a far-reaching impact on education and teaching,which can promote the second language teaching and learning.Positive psychology in SLA collected a variety of aspects of language acquisition and processing in situations where a language or several kinds of non-native languages are involved,including empathy,happiness,enjoyment,hope and positive emotions.The target readers of the translation would be students,teachers and researchers who are interested in SLA.Therefore,the translation should accurately convey the information which the original text expresses,and conform to the language habits of the target readers.In other words,the translation should be clear and easy to be understood.However,this book involves long sentences with various modifiers,clauses,compact sentence structure and rigorous logic.Therefore,long English sentences translation becomes the difficultly during the translation task.Communicative translation is applicable to informative texts.Positive Psychology in SLA is a reference book about positive psychology in the second language teaching and learning.It is informative text.Thus,the author selected Newmark's communicative translation as theoretical foundation for the translation task.Communicative translation emphasizes that the translation attempts to make the target readers and the original readers to obtain the similar reading experience.It focuses on the target readers and tries to eliminate the difficulties and obstacles while reading.The long sentences in the source text include simple sentences,compound sentences,complex sentences and compound complex sentences with rigorous grammar,complex structures and various modifiers.These factors cause the difficulties in the translation task.Based on the differences in long sentences between English and Chinese and from the perspective of communicative translation,the author mainly uses translation methods including sequencing,reversing,cutting and synthesizing during the long sentences translation to ensure the accuracy of the translation and make it easier for readers to understand.
