This is a translation project report which is based on the introduction,chapter one and two of the book How to Read Water: Clues and Patterns from Puddles to the Sea.The three selected parts mainly focus on water clues and patterns as well as their applications in concrete cases.The source text belongs to the kind of scientific text,whose contents are closely related to water clues,patterns and concrete cases with their applications.This best explains why there are always some technical terms of water,ripples and waves in it.Based on the accurate translations of technical terms and a good comprehension of the source text as well as great respects to the style of source text,the translator employs the appropriate translation methods to get better translation under the guidance of translation theories like text type.This translation project presents a brief introduction to the source text,the author and the translation project itself,analyzes the language style and the stylistic features and adopts appropriate translation theories and methods to demonstrate the process of translation with concrete examples.In the process of translation,the translator mainly adopts the appropriate translation methods,such as linear translation,recasting,conversion of parts of speech and division.Through this translation project,the translator can further study the translation theories and methods for the improvement of translation competence.
