On Interpretation Of Long And Difficult Sentences From The Perspective Of The Interpretive Theory

Because of the economic development and the growth of national power, international society is paying increasing attention on the development program and prospect of China. And the Premier's press conference during the NPC and CPPCC Sessions every March has been a vital way to know better about the Chinese government. Due to its uniqueness, political background and special contents, the requirement on the interpreter involving is much more comprehensive and higher. The interpreter as well as the interpretation of the speech has long been the focus of study. The speaker here has a profound intellectual background; furthermore, the topics cover lots of events in politics, economy, and diplomacy, culture etc. What's more, long and difficult sentences, because of its hardness in understanding and therefore interpreting, have become a major impact on the quality of interpretation. Besides, previous studies on long and difficult sentences are not enough or convincing. Effective understanding and expression of the long and hard sentences therefore worth researching.This thesis is a case study based on the premier's press conference during the NPC and CPPCC sessions, which uses the Interpretive Theory as the analysis tool and quantitative and qualitative researching methods, focusing on the interpreting strategies to deal with the long and difficult sentences in interpretation.From the study, the author notices that factors influencing on long and difficult sentences are:the difference of sentence structure, lack of logic of the source speech and different thinking patterns. And on solving problems above, basic methods are: syntactic transformation, logic processing, visualizing the source speech and syntactic linearity, as well as using notes in a proper way. The author would want to use the results to guide future interpreting by learning the theoretical knowledge and the practical strategies.
