This is a project report on the translation of Chapter 1?2 and 3 of “AMPED” authored by Douglas E.Richards--an American science fiction writer. This novel narrates a story about a female scientist Kira Miller who discovers a gene therapy to temporarily boost human IQ to dizzying level.Due to this, she and her friends are all caught in crisis.Based on the translation of chapter 1 to 3,this report mainly introduces the translation theory and the translation methods that the author used in overcoming the difficulties. The main contents of this report are divided into five chapters: Chapter 1 is the translation project introduction, including project background, significance and structure.Chapter 2 is an introduction to the source text, including the author introduction, the main content and analysis of the source text.According to Peter Newmark's Text-type Theory, the source text is categorized into a vocative text. The vocative text emphasizes the readership and its main purpose is calling upon the readership to act, think or feel,in fact to react in the way intended by the text. The translation of such texts should focus on target language readers.Chapter 3 is a detailed description of guiding theories and their enlightenment to this translation project.Chapter 4 is the core of this report, which points out the difficulties encountered in the translation and corresponding solutions.Chapter 5 is a conclusion, including the lessons learned during the translation process and the problems to be solved. It is hoped that this report can be a reference for the translation and further study of science fiction.
