The source text of this thesis is the Chapter 3 and 4 of Sports Justice: The Law and the Business of Sports. The book discusses many issues in western sports through observing the status quo and telling relative history. The thesis is guided by the theory and study of textual coherence.Based on the former study in this area,Zhang Delu summarizes the external factors which influence the textual coherence include cultural context, situation context, cognitive models and psychology.Because much knowledge of many areas, for example, law and business are involved, the influence of the cultural context is much obvious.Based on the translation practice, the thesis analyzes the functions of the cultural context and other external factors in the source text, and discusses the cultural words as well as the translating skills combined with examples in detail.Through the analysis of the source text from the perspective of coherence, the thesis proves the textual coherence theory can guide the translation practice. The research mainly adopts inductive and deductive methods. The thesis hopes to be helpful for other translation projects as well. The thesis consists of three chapters.Chapter One briefly introduces the source text, translation purpose and significance of the project.Chapter Two briefly explains the theory of textual coherence mostly in accordance with Zhang Delu's summary, mainly about the external factors of coherence.Chapter Three summarizes the problems in the translation process as well as the translation skills applied. In addition, there is the conclusion of the translation project in the end.
