A Practice Report On The Simulated C-E Consecutive Interpreting

From November 16 th to 19 th,2016,World Internet Conference ? was ceremoniously held in WuZhen,Zhejiang Province.WuZhen was widely acclaimed as China's Silk Town in ancient times.Jack Ma,Chairman of Alibaba Group,was honored as the first guest speaker of the conference,at which he vividly depicted to us his way to success as well as some specific problems of cross-border e-commerce in the setting of the global economic integration.His speech is filled with novelty value,and the content of which is easy to resonate with the general Internet public.The fact that Internet Conference will be permanently held in WuZhen has proved itself the perfect combination of fashion and tradition.The prosperity of the WuZhen's Internet industry is a microcosm of Zhejiang's fully-developed Internet economy.E-commerce transactions of Zhejiang are reported to have been taking the lead over the past few years.We choose Wu Zhen as the hosting place of World Internet Conference on account of the following two factors: one is that the town is highly fashionable;another is that it is possessed of the gene of traditional Chinese culture.Big data era is the product of the Internet revolution in science and technology.In this era,the concept of Global Village is gradually changing from being fuzzier to clearer.This Internet Conference has adopted “the innovation-driven thought,bringing happiness to mankind and joining hands to build a cyberspace” as its theme.At this conference Jack Ma has delivered a special speech,from the content of which the world can definitely know of the growth potential of Chinese Internet finance trade and of cross-border E-commerce dealers as well.In this paper the simulated consecutive interpretation work was completed by the author by means of video presentations.She played the role of an consecutive interpreter throughout the process.The concrete interpretation procedures,the results and the deficiencies of interpretation are respectively analyzed.Some basic approaches as to how to distinguish the cultural differences between Chinese and English language and how to grasp oral interpretation skills are discussed.It is earnestly hoped that this paper might serve as an eye-opener to arouse the attention of English language learners,of the English media and of the general public and thus China's interpretation career can be further promoted.This paper is a report on interpreting practice.Chapter One gives a brief account of the interpreting content,then a brief introduction to the speaker Jack Ma and the background of this speech event,and finally to the reasons for choosing the source materials.Chapter Two mainly describes the specific interpretation procedures,including three periods: pre-interpretation,in-interpretation and post-interpretation period.The first period covers consulting background information materials;listing a glossary of E-commerce terms;interpretation work flow and arrangement of the interpretation order.The second period includes recording the symbols of the interpreted text;the theoretical memory of the text and output of the text.The third period is inclusive of sorting out information materials and the summary.Chapter Three is the case study chapter,complete with the analysis of failure cases,the study of some untranslatability factors in view of Chinese and English cultural contrast,the overall understanding of the diversity of e-commerce and economic terms and the description of the author's being found lacking in the real interpretation practice.Chapter Four mainly deals with the significance and features of the application of Chinese and English interpreting skills,including the interpretation of Chinese and English,the functional interpretation theory,the principles of induction and explanation.A summary as well as the author's personal reflections over her simulated interpretation work are presented in the last chapter.In the meantime,some concrete suggestions as to how to handle interpretation work in the interpreting process are also made for sake of sharing some of my experiences with the other interpreters.
