The text that the translation grounds on excerpts from Tipping Point for Planet Earth written by Anthony D.Barnosky and his wife.Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 are chosen to translate.The two chapters mainly explain why earth is headed for the tipping point through water and food crisis.The translation report is divided into four parts: Part One is a general introduction to the translation report,including the reasons for topic choosing,values and objectives.Part Two states what preparation work the translator has done in order to conduct the translation.Part Three is about the case analysis.Combined with the translation practice,the report analyzes the transition cases from word,text,style and punctuation those four dimensions with different translation techniques.Part Four is the conclusion.Through the translation,the translator has those major findings: First,a translator should be equipped with translation theory.The translation theory can guide the translating and make the translation logical.Second,background information plays a key role both in text understanding and translating.For translation,the background information in English and in Chinese both are essential so that the correct established equivalence can be matched especially for the proper nouns.Third,revising is necessary.Revising can improve the quality of translation.Furthermore,translator can conclude some rules through revising.
