Tracks in the Snowy Forest is one important fiction with revolutionary historical theme among the fictions in the seventeen years(1949-1966),and a significant representative of the Red Classics. To research on its overseas dissemination has certain value for understanding the level of overseas acceptance of the "seventeen-year literature".Unfortunately, there has not been a relatively complete academic summary of its overseas translation and publication situation as well as a collection of researches and comments on this work. This thesis tries to analyse the range and effect of its overseas dissemination during the 60 years since it made its first appearance, including the dissemination of its several adaptations. In different times, what features and patterns did the dissemination process present? How the level of acceptance of the varied artistic expressions differed since they reflected distinct background and aesthetic point of views? The author wishes to answer these questions with data and material researches and tries to fill a gap in the area of overseas dissemination of Chinese contemporary literature. Therefore, the author conducts this study from these aspects listed below:Firstly, the author uses OCLC World,a global network of library content and services, and CiNii,a database that covers Japanese scholarly works to collect data of the publication and translation situation of Tracks in the Snowy Forest, the number of libraries other than China that have the book, the adapted version of modern Peking opera as well as the 21st century film in their collections. The author analyses the number and the nature of the libraries to understand the dissemination range of this work.Secondly, the author resorts to JSTOR and other digital libraries of academic journals and books for researches and studies conducted on Tracks in the snowy forests and its adaptations,as well as collects reviews and comments from common readers and audience,in order to analyse the level of acceptance of the work.Thirdly, with all the data and information collected, the author aims to evaluate the variation trend of the overseas dissemination and acceptance of the fiction and its adaptations, and tries to offer some reference and inspiration for the Chinese contemporary literature and artwork to step out to the world. The fiction Tracks in the Snowy Forest and modern Peking opera Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy and 3D film The Taking of Tiger Mountain spread out in a relatively large range, and US was the top recipient. The majority of libraries that had the books and operas in their collections were libraries of universities and academic institutes. However,in the new era, with varied art form and outstanding production technology, the film has much more radiation power than the reading materials. The number of public libraries that have the film in their collections is bigger than the number of university libraries, and there forms a large group of overseas audience of the film, some of whom got to know the book and the historical event through the film. This fiction and its adaptations have open interpretive space and rich historical meanings.People of different times would interpret them in different perspectives.Even though the art forms changed, and the narrative style and aesthetic angles varied, the spirit is consistent and inherently logical. Therefore, the acceptance of overseas recipients is consistent on a certain level.
