| This thesis is aimed to explore specific parameters and quantitative methods to assess and compare the quality of human and AI interpretation in C-E consecutive interpreting based on quality evaluation theories and researches in interpreting.It also involves probing into the strengths and weaknesses of AI interpretation and seeking future directions for interpreters.In the theory part,this study first reviewed the history of interpreting,basic features of conference interpreting,and the parameters in researches at home and abroad to assess the quality of interpretation,and carried out the comparison adopting three parameters ie Fidelity,Delivery and Grammar.In terms of AI interpretation,this thesis introduced the origin of machine translation and the development of artificial intelligence and deep neural networks technologies,and elaborated on the translating process and technical breakthroughs of the newly released Google's Neural Machine Translation System.In the comparing and analyzing part,this study selected excerpts of Premier Li Keqiang's speeches at the press conferences following the two sessions as test materials.AI interpretation is represented by Google Translation and Baidu Translation.Human interpretation materials were sampled from the official interpreting version of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and five other professional interpreters,who were graduated from GSTI a year ago.The eight versions were assessed,using quantitative and qualitative analyses from the angles of fidelity,delivery and grammar.The conclusion of the thesis is that AI and human interpretations have their own merits and flaws.In its future development,AI should enlarge its corpora,enhance text processing ability and the capability of logical analysis,and attach greater importance to context and grammar.Interpreters should constantly improve their interpreting competence and face the challenges brought by AI with a broader mind. |
