This paper tries to explore the correlation between L2chunks and performance of C-E conference consecutive interpretation based on the quantitative and qualitative analysis of an empirical study. The basis for this study is that first of all, chunks are natural characteristics of all human languages and especially active in conference utterance, and second interpretation as is an activity evolving from L2acquisition should benefit from the improvement in the way interpreters use chunks. The study found that the performance of the delivery is in positive correlation with the frequency of using chunks and so is the level of interpretation learners, which means that higher frequency of using chunks shows, in a way, the growing capability of interpreters, which also helps to improve the delivery of interpretation. The qualitative and quantitative analysis proves this is the natural result as L2chunks alleviate the efforts of interpreters. The study leads to a conclusion that interpretation training should not be separated from language learning. Nor should it be constrained in the traditional interpretation training philosophy which advocates lexical learning only. All in all, this paper aims to explore the role of L2chunks in interpretation and accordingly provides some useful suggestions to interpretation learning.
