This is a report on a translation project which was given by the author's tutor in her college.During the postgraduate period, the author participated in the translation of some chapters of the novel,The Black Arrow with a total of about 15000 words. This novel, set in the background of the Wars of Roses,is a work which describes the adventurous journey of the hero.He went through all kinds of hardships, and finally, beat the evil and got married with his lover. The target reader of the source text is children, thus, this novel can be classified as children's literature work.Excellent children's literature works help broaden children's knowledge and cultivate their noble characters,so the translation of children's literature works is practically meaningful. The theoretical guidance of this translation project is skopos theory which determines what translation strategies and translation skills should be used.Based on the three rules of skopos theory, namely skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule, this report made a detailed analysis and conclusion on the translation from the lexical level, syntactical level and rhetorical level. As for the lexical level, the author mainly adopted translation skills such as amplification, omission and conversion;as for the difficulties in the syntactical level, like long and complicated sentences, the author adopted division translation, combination translation and inversion translation;meanwhile,as for the rhetorical level, such as simile, metaphor, personification and parallelism, the author also made a proper solution based on the guidance of the three rules of skopos theory and gave a detailed analysis. At the end,the author also made a conclusion on the difficulties, solutions and experience she learned during the translation process,so as to provide some valuable references to children's literature translation.Meanwhile, through this translation project, the author also found some of her drawbacks, which requires her to conclude and improve translation skills in the future study.
